Litter Study

The Litter Study is an organized volunteer based program to track the impact and patterns of trash behavior in the City of Charlotte.

In April 2024, KCB launched a litter study, in partnership with UNC Charlotte, to study the composition and distribution of litter across Charlotte. This year-long study includes four sampling periods: April 2024, August 2024, November 2024, and January 2025. The goal for this study is to produce data that can support waste management and litter prevention policies that can be passed locally to improve sustainability initiatives across the City of Charlotte. We rely on volunteers for this event to help sample the routes.
