Hanna Kirlin, a Gastonia native, brings her passion for community health and service to her new role on the Friends of Keep Charlotte Beautiful Board. As a mom to Emi, 4, and Adonis, 1, and president of the Charlotte Rugby Club Board, Hanna manages to balance family, work, and volunteerism with flair. She and her husband, Irving, met on the rugby pitch and, though semi-retired from playing, they still join in on a game or two. Hanna’s career as a grant writer at United Way of Greater Charlotte continues her commitment to creating a more equitable, healthier, and connected Charlotte. Email me

I’m the Executive Director of Keep Charlotte Beautiful and the co-creator of Friends of Keep Charlotte Beautiful. As someone always looking for ways to improve how our government functions, I was drawn to the nonprofit sector as a conduit for individuals and organizations looking to support our programming beyond its traditional resources. The thousands of volunteers who I work with each year inspire me to continue growing Keep Charlotte Beautiful’s programming, and I’m fortunate to work with the skilled members of this board in making that happen. My spare time is dominated by my passions for history and the environment. If I’m not delving into a historical tome or fervently scrolling through Politico articles, I’m escaping into nature for a hike or run: bonus points if I don’t encounter a single other person along the way. I might spend my evenings and weekends strategizing over board games or tending to the bird sanctuary I've created in my backyard, but I find a calling in the nonprofit world. It's a place where I can put my problem-solving skills to work for a cause greater than myself. The work isn't always glamorous - there are resource challenges and volunteer shortages - but witnessing the positive impact on communities and individuals makes it all worthwhile. Whether it's a neighborhood organizing a cleanup or someone finding their voice, these moments of real change are what keep me motivated and dedicated to FoKCB's mission. Email me
